La Pletera, nature and crafts

La Pletera is a marsh between l’Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí. Disappeared in 1987 due to the construction of a seafront promenade and six housing islands, in 2018 the space was deurbanised and restored, which has allowed the natural system of marshes and lagoons to be recovered. The area offers an itinerary in the Montgrí, Illes Medes and Baix Ter Natural Park that can be followed through the Natura Local self-guided routes mobile app.

Nature, fauna and crafts

The route proposes discovering the coastline of l’Estartit as far as the Gola del Ter, the current mouth of the river in Torroella. The route starts at the Estartit Tourist Office and passes by the lagoons of the Old Ter, the old mouth of the river. It then goes on to the Closes and the Pletera. It continues on to the Fra Ramon pond and then enters a dune landscape as far as the Ter river mote. Finally, it reaches the Gola del Ter, a spot with views of the Medes Islands, the Pals beach and the Begur massif.

The route, about 3 km long, is very flat. It passes along sandy tracks, asphalted stretches and small paths. Along the route there are seating facilities and you can observe the fauna from an accessible viewpoint and another attraction: you can admire the wickerwork constructions of the artist Josep Mercader, one of the few remaining traditional basket-makers in the Empordà.
