One of the objectives of the Girona City Council’s Strategic Tourism Plan is to promote universal tourism so that Girona becomes a tourist destination open to everyone. The Tourist Office has now incorporated new accessible material for people with visual disability that provides a better understanding of the city thanks to 3D models and a relief map of the historic centre.

Historic buildings in 3D

The Tourist Office provides visitors with 3D models of seven emblematic spaces and buildings in the city. They are the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, Plaça de l’Assumpció, the cathedral, the basilica of Sant Feliu and the basilica tower, and the modernist buildings by Rafael Masó, the Farinera Teixidor and the Casa Teixidor or Casa de la Punxa.

The models are available to visitors on request, as well as to tourist companies that organise adapted visits. The service is free of charge, but prior booking is required by emailing turisme@ajgirona.cat.

The historic centre in relief

As of this summer, the Girona Tourist Office also has a relief map of the old quarter of Girona. The map, which allows visitors to get a feel for the city’s main attractions, is located next to the tourist information desk and can be consulted freely.

The councillor for Economic Promotion, Glòria Plana Yanes, stressed that “tourism is a vital sector for the city’s economy”. She added that, thanks to this material, visual difficulties are no longer a problem for discovering all that Girona has to offer.
